Sea Fishing Update Up To March 2020

Bloody hell what a winter I picked to not fish! For the first time in over 10 years I took the decision to do no fishing at all, take the boat out of the water and catch up with loads of other jobs. Then just as we were hitting spring the weather turned, endless storms up this way, no chance of doing the work on the boat and getting back out to sea. Finally when things are settling down and I’ve arranged for somebody to tidy up the boat all this Covid-19 shit kicks off! The Isle of Man went in to lockdown literally in the week when I was due to get everything sorted and the boat back in the water.

So where does that leave me? 6 months with no proper fishing by the looks of it, and that’s if people can get their acts together and stick by the rules. Besides the Mrs having chronic asthma we are also 100% sticking to what the government says just on the hope of getting this sack of crap over and done with sooner rather than later. The Isle of Man is a small island and all being well I can hope we’ll be back fishing by early summer, that makes walking past the kayak each day worth it…sort off. It doesn’t make it easy when some right dosey idiots won’t do the same but heh what can you do?

In the meantime you’ve got to get your thrills where you can find them. Youtube videos of people not in lockdown and virtual fishing for me. No it’s not the same, no it doesn’t have the same health benefits, no nothing beats actual fishing but in order to get this done and dusted sooner I’m prepared to stick to the rules and make do with this. That and sorting through the fishing tackle…for the 100th time. Hopefully the rest of you are finding ways to get by too?
