Catching Mackerel On A Pen Rod
My dad once said if Mackerel grew to 7–8lb we’d never fish for anything else, he was probably right. 1 at a time and pound for pound they are the best fighting fish in UK waters in my opinion. So with all other offshore fishing being dominated by endless Spurdogs I cracked out the little Pen Rod (that I’ve only ever used for pulling tiny Trout from a stream) and gave it a go for Mackerel in around 100ft of water. Make Mackerel fishing fun and you’ll never get bored between bites again.

All I did was replace the line with some quality 6lb stuff that I’d usually use on the reservoirs. Everything else is as it arrived.
